Consilium Strategic Communications, a global leader in strategic healthcare communications, is pleased to have advised Cambridge Innovation Capital (“CIC”) on its over-subscribed £75 million private financing round.
CIC is a preferred investor for the University of Cambridge and has a unique relationship with Cambridge Enterprise, the commercialisation arm of the University, including co-investment opportunities and access to pre-emption rights over companies arising out of the University. CIC provides long term capital to support the sustained growth of investee companies in the rapidly-growing technology and healthcare sectors.
The oversubscribed round was supported by new investors including Woodford Investment Management acting as agent on behalf of certain discretionally managed funds, Winton Ventures, the Oman Investment Fund and other institutional investors and existing shareholders including University of Cambridge Endowment Fund, Lansdowne Partners, ARM and IP Group plc. The new funds raised will be used to provide additional investment to CIC’s current portfolio, to invest in new opportunities created at the University of Cambridge and within the Cambridge Cluster and to expand the CIC team to allow the Company to capitalise on its strong inflow of new investment opportunities.
The Consilium Strategic Communications team advising CIC comprises Mary-Jane Elliott, Ivar Milligan and Lindsey Neville. Consilium was retained by CIC in 2015 to assist with its ongoing strategic and financial communications.
Mary-Jane Elliott, Managing Partner of Consilium Strategic Communications, commented: “We are very pleased to have worked with CIC on this fundraising. The unique relationship CIC has with the University of Cambridge, combined with its deep financial and industry links to the area, is an exciting proposition for the UK healthcare and tech sectors and the success of this private financing round is testament to that. We would like to congratulate CIC’s management team on achieving this significant fundraise.”
Victor Christou, CEO of Cambridge Innovation Capital, said: “We are pleased to be working with the team at Consilium who have demonstrated their strong capital markets experience plus close relationships with financial media throughout this process. We appointed the team to be CIC’s strategic communications advisor due to their focus, experience, professionalism and energy and we are pleased to be continuing the relationship with them.”
